A Gift Guide For Mothers Day
Mother’s Day is right around the corner and if like me, you’re trying to be a little more creative than the usual flowers and chocolates this year, then my friend, you are in the right place!
So many mums out there find it hard to switch off at the end of the day and truly indulge in some ‘me-time’, after all keeping other humans alive is tough! After a long day whats left in the tank for them?
I spoke to a few mums, from toddler mums to teen mums, all about how they fill their energy cups and try to relax at the end of the day. While the expected long baths, indulgent tv shows and catch-up on sleep responses were common, a few of the women I spoke to told me how knitting was their new sanctuary.
One of the mum’s I spoke to is a single parent to a three year old girl who also works full-time, despite her wanting a new challenge she felt limited, as her minimal free time was in the evening when she couldn’t leave her daughter. Knitting offered her a challenge without having to leave the house and was perfect for after the bed-time routine.
Here’s what she said about her new hobby; “I didn’t expect to enjoy knitting as much as I do, I’ve been knitting for about six months now and it really helps with my stress levels. It’s also helped my mental health more than I thought it would and it’s such a good feeling when I can see my daughter wearing something that I’ve made.”
Another mum of three I spoke to, had suffered with PTSD and experiences anxiety, her goal for 2023 was to become more mindful and dedicate an hour each day just for her. Taking up knitting several months ago as a way to “focus her mind on something else”, she said; “I would 100% recommend knitting to other mums and to anyone else who struggles with their mental health. I can zone out when I am knitting and I think it’s a great tool to help with stress levels.”
There you have it, the mums have spoken! Knitting is such a great way to clear your mind at the end of the day, keeping your hands busy and your mind calm. So the big question is which kit to go for?
